Gary Spieler

I was born and raised in Sioux City, IA. I attended Sioux City East High School, home of the Black Raiders.

After that, I wound up at the University of Northern Iowa. While there, I earned a couple of degrees, a B.A. in Applied Mathematics and a B.S. in Computer Science. Almost as importantly, I had the opportunity of getting involved at St Stephen the Witness Catholic student center. I also took statistics for the UNI Volleyball team.

School was still quite enjoyable, so I went to the Computer Science department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I eventually started to go to Mass on a very regular basis at St John's Catholic Chapel. And again, I couldn't stay away from helping out the Illinois Volleyball team. After a couple of years, I earned my Master of Computer Science degree.

In March of 2003, I began working in the IT department at Great West Casualty Company. Great West deals primarily in commercial truck insurance. One of my duties is to keep the web site up to date and make improvements as well.

Before I moved back to Sioux City, I lived in Fort Madison for just over 6 months. While there, I made a lot a friends. Several of them are currently on getting a low power FM Catholic radio station up and going. I started a web page for them, but it hasn't gone very far. Please check out the Fort Madison Divine Mercy Radio station.

I attend the Church of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ. I also have a page for my 8th Grade CCD class, but it's a out of date.

I started reading a couple of Vatican II documents, but reading on the screen is a pain in the rear. So, I did a little programming to make text only versions of the documents. It was a fun PERL project and my efforts can been seen at my II Vatican Council documents page.
